Over the past 2 years, as Spaulding Ridge has grown from a small group of early believers to a dedicated and passionate team of over 75, I’ve been committed to doing things differently. We’ve prioritized the investment we make in our people – in building a culture committed to learning, personal growth and making a difference in the world.

It’s easy enough for companies to put slogans on the wall and pay lip service to their ‘values’, but much harder to live these out. This past week, though, we got to see an example of our values and people investment come to life in a very real and tangible way.

Put together by Ignite, women leaders from across our organization participated in an inspiring team experience in Mexico. This four-day immersion included collaboration with community leaders, engagement with aspiring women entrepreneurs, strategic team discussions, and a fun and amazing cultural adventure.

Most of our team is remote and we’ve grown primarily through acquisition, meaning people are dispersed across the country and rarely get the face-to-face interaction and relationship-building needed for a high-performing team. As this group of women arrived in Mexico, some had never met, or only had brief video chats, others were skeptical and not sure what to expect. What happened over the next 72 hours was nothing short of transformational. Friendships were formed, senior leaders listened and encouraged, and everyone learned from the powerful local community examples of teamwork.

I’m convinced that regardless of age, industry or experience, today’s employees are looking for purpose and growth. This requires an intentional commitment to provide opportunities for connection – with one another and the world. Our partnership with Ignite fosters this commitment through leadership development experiences internationally as well as in Chicago. We’ve now seen the ROI on this commitment and there’s no turning back. We’re excited to be building a company where our employees can reach their full potential, and our interactions with the world leave it a better place.
